I knew I didn't want to go back to the calamity I just left. At this point in my life, I was struggling to see my way through the financial burden I was grappling with. I was living in my mother in-law’s basement after losing 2 homes. My youngest son was about to start preschool, but complications from his sickle cell was making everyone anxious. On top of that, my business was on the verge of completely falling apart.
I knew I didn't want to go back to the calamity I just left, but how do you move forward. I heard it said time and again that success leaves clues. I decided it was well past time for me to pay better attention to the clues that success was leaving behind. So, I decided to go get it.
The first clue I discovered was waking up early.
When you have a 3-year-old, you’re already up early, but it has absolutely nothing to do with you personally. I had to learn to get up 30 minutes earlier than usual to do things I needed for me. I can’t begin to describe the struggle I went through during that time in my life. It took me almost a month to consistently rise 30 minutes before my day started. I am so glad I learned the first clue, because today I'm up about 2 hours before I need to leave the house. Getting up this early helps me get centered and prepare for my day. I exercise, read, and layout things for my business. Without going to get the first clue, I would have never purchased my next house or created a new business that rid me of the debt I was ladened with. Be patient with yourself through this process, just get up and do better the next day.
The second clue is writing down your goals. Goals are steps to achieving your vision. If you write your goals down, you're more likely to accomplish them. To make it simple just write three things you want to accomplish in your day. Once you have written down your goals, start visualizing what it takes to accomplish them. When you visualize what you really want to get out of your life, write your goals down to achieve it. You’ll be amazed at the transformation that will happen for you.
The third clue is watching your mindset. You must have a mindset of perseverance to succeed. There will come a time when you will not want to keep pressing towards a goal. Life will start throwing things at you that will get you off course. Things will arise that could cause you to waste time while you are trying to complete your goals. You must persevere to get through that moment because another one is coming. Eventually you will get where you want to be, if you persevere.
These are just a few tips I learned along the way. That year, well those years, in my life were very difficult. Learning to wake up early helped me to visualize what I truly wanted to get out of my life. Establishing new goals to succeed helped me develop a mindset that encouraged me to persevere when life started throwing daggers my way.
